Golfing in Douglas Shire Council
Golf in Douglas Shire has a resort flavour, set between rainforest, mountains and the Coral Sea from Port Douglas up toward the Daintree. Mirage Country Club, a Peter Thomson and Michael Wolveridge design that opened in 1987, runs parallel to Four Mile Beach and winds through resort villas and gardens, with an unusual balance of six par 3s, six par 4s and six par 5s, two very different nines and a finish around a pond. Palmer Sea Reef at Craiglie followed in 2000 from Thomson, Wolveridge & Perrett, a relatively flat layout under a mountain backdrop where the greens do most of the defending. Mossman Golf Club at Miallo is the locals' public 18, a rainforest parkland where the back nine has a genuine jungle feel and the long par 4s, especially the 12th, demand respect.
