Victoria is the heart of Australian golf, and for most visitors golfing in Victoria begins on the Melbourne Sandbelt — a 20-kilometre crescent of fast, sandy soil that holds the greatest concentration of championship courses in the country. It's home to Royal Melbourne, routinely ranked the finest course in Australia, alongside Kingston Heath and a cluster of MacKenzie-influenced layouts whose bold bunkering and firm, running greens reward clever, ground-game golf.

The best golf courses in Victoria aren't all behind member gates, though. An hour from the city, the coastal links of the Mornington Peninsula and the dunes around Geelong & the Bellarine offer some of the country's best public golf — including the wild, walkable 13th Beach. Inland, the Goldfields and Gippsland hide heritage parkland and country tracks where a round rarely costs more than a casual green fee in town.
