Golfing in City of Port Phillip
Port Phillip's golf is all in Albert Park, a short hop from the CBD along the bay, and the game has deep roots here: it has been played in the park since 1891, when the Melbourne Golf Club (now Royal Melbourne) won permission from the park's trustees to play there. Albert Park Golf Course is a public 18-hole, par-72 parkland layout wrapped around the Grand Prix circuit and the lake, with tidy greens, light bunkering and a relaxed, central feel that makes it one of the city's most accessible rounds; it also hosts the Victorian PGA Championships each October. Melbourne Golf Park, which began as a driving range in the late 1990s, is open to the public seven days a week in the lake precinct, with a long range, a short-game area and coaching for first-timers and regulars alike.
