Golfing in City of Albany
Golf in Albany has history to match Western Australia's oldest colonial settlement, set on Princess Royal Harbour and King George Sound. Albany Golf Club is the home of WA's oldest golf club, founded in 1898 with nine holes, and Bill Anderson's 18-hole coastal links followed in 1963. It is a par-72 test shaped by dunes and sea breeze, demanding from the back tees but thoroughly enjoyable from the whites on a calm day, with lush fairways and quick, true greens that reward precise play. Riverview Golf Club at King River, less than 20 minutes from the city centre, is a different proposition: a public 18-holer set in native bush with views across farmland, approachable but genuinely challenging, its sand greens a fun point of difference rather than a drawback.
