Gil Hanse's reimagined Rose Bay parkland — modern design, world-class condition
Royal Sydney Golf Club is located in Rose Bay, New South Wales, Australia, featuring an 18-hole Par 72 Championship Course and a 9-hole Par 33 Centenary Course. The Championship Course includes 143 mapped bunkers and offers multiple tee options ranging from 4785m to 6033m. Designed by Gil Hanse with landscape architecture by Harley Kruse, the course utilizes a 'two loops of nine' routing pattern. The Centenary Course was rebuilt in 1997 by Thomson Wolveridge Perrett and features water on six holes.
Players consistently praise the Championship Course for its exceptional conditioning, noting that fairways feel like carpet and greens are fast even after heavy rain. The design is characterized as highly challenging yet rewarding, with players finding the abundant bunkers to be a joy to escape due to the high-quality sand. Visitors often highlight the course's reputation as one of Sydney's best, appreciating the cool, calm atmosphere and the scenic beauty of the grounds. While the golfing experience is widely celebrated, some guests have expressed disappointment regarding strict club policies for non-members and families.
