About the course
Sydney's sandbelt links, minutes from the CBD and playable nearly every day
Bonnie Doon Golf Course is a private, fully sand-based sandbelt course in Pagewood, New South Wales, within 8km of the Sydney CBD. Established in 1897 and operated by The Bonnie Doon Golf Club Ltd, it plays to a par of 76 across 5,912 metres, with the layout redesigned by Ogilvy, Clayton, Cocking and Mead. The course features wide fairways, natural hazards and 122 mapped bunkers, carved from sandy heath and banksia scrub. Facilities include a driving range, putting green, restaurant/dining and cart hire, and the sand base keeps it playable 364 days a year.
As one of Sydney's oldest and most influential clubs, "The Doon" carries a strong reputation among players who consistently rate it as one of the nicest courses in the city. Reviewers regularly praise the immaculate conditioning, with fast, true greens and well-maintained fairways drawing particular admiration. The variety of the layout earns frequent mention, with golfers noting that every hole presents a different challenge and that the abundant bunkering and exposure to wind can make for a genuine test. The clubhouse and overall presentation are spoken of warmly, adding to the sense of a course many leave eager to play again. As a private members' club it has a traditional, exclusive feel, so visitors should expect the etiquette and access arrangements that come with that.
