About the course
Public parkland by the Bellarine coast with superbly conditioned bent greens
Portarlington Golf Course is a private 18-hole, par-72 layout at Indented Head on Victoria's Bellarine Peninsula, measuring 5,849 metres with around 40 mapped bunkers. It sits near the beach yet is neither a links nor a parklands course, and offers a range of tee choices to suit all levels. The opening hole is a short par-4 where shorter hitters must avoid a bunker on the right of the fairway while longer players can weigh up driving the green, with two large bunkers guarding a green that is deep from front to back. On-site facilities include a driving range, pro shop, restaurant/dining, clubhouse, cart and club hire, and coaching.
Reputed as one of the Bellarine's best-kept secrets, the course is known for its superbly conditioned bent greens, quick drainage and an easy walk over only gentle undulations. Players consistently describe a layout that balances genuine challenge with enjoyment for all abilities, helped by the spread of tee options. Beyond the golf, the clubhouse and bistro draw plenty of praise, with diners regularly highlighting great food, a lively atmosphere and friendly service, even if a few note the kitchen can occasionally be inconsistent. The welcoming, characterful pro shop team adds to the at-home feel, making it as much a social destination as a place to play.
