Golfing in Camden Council
Two public 18-hole courses in Sydney's south-west Macarthur region could hardly be more different. Camden Golf Club at Narellan is a par-74 Eric Apperly parkland course dating from 1950, a well-presented round with the Blue Mountains as a backdrop and harvested water keeping it in good order year-round. It is the traditional choice, long and measured, with a lively club life around it. Lakeside at Gledswood Hills goes in another direction entirely as Sydney's only Peter Thomson design, a links-style layout from the early 1990s with undulating fairways, pot bunkers tucked into rolling ground and water in play. Later reshaped with four new holes beside the Gledswood heritage homestead, it rewards thoughtful play while staying welcoming to social golfers, and its scenic setting makes it a popular backdrop for events as well as golf.
