Golfing in Liverpool City Council
Sydney's south-west keeps Liverpool's golf in one spot: both of its courses sit at Moorebank, and both are open to the public. Brighton Lakes has the more unusual story. Its club began in the late 1920s as North Brighton beside the Cooks River, was pushed out by runway extensions at Sydney Airport, moved to Milperra in 1950, and now plays an 18-hole Bob Harrison design along the Georges River that opened in 2019. The riverside parkland layout uses strategically placed water and bunkering and is pitched to be fun yet challenging for everyone from beginners to professionals, with an architecturally designed clubhouse looking over the course and lake. The Royal Australian Engineers Golf Club offers a quieter par-70 parkland alternative, a low-profile 18 with little written about it, so golfers can form their own view of how it plays.
