Golfing in Glen Innes Severn Council
Glen Innes Severn sits high on the New England tablelands, more than 1,000 metres above sea level, and offers two public courses at opposite ends of the country golf scale. Glen Innes Golf Club, dating from 1900, is an 18-hole, par-71 parkland course in the New England High Country, around 5,750 metres long, with generous, wide fairways leading to tricky, well-grassed greens that reward thoughtful play. The altitude brings distinct seasons and a fresh, invigorating feel, and renovated greens and new paths have kept the course moving forward. Deepwater Golf Club, 40 kilometres north of town, is the purist's detour: a tiny nine-hole club with 18 tees, sand greens and a big sense of comradeship, offering a no-frills, unhurried round in open rural country well away from the busier courses.
