Golfing in Orange City Council
Orange's golf comes down to two 18-hole courses in Calare that could hardly feel more different. Duntryleague is the grand one, a members' club that welcomes visitors, laid out around a heritage-listed Victorian Italianate mansion built in 1876 to a Benjamin Backhouse design. The Orange Golf Club took over the estate in 1946 to create a residential country golf club, and its par-72 parkland now runs among stately gardens and mature trees, challenging but fair and regarded as one of the region's premier venues. Wentworth is the public alternative, a par-74 country course of a little over 5,700 metres, liked for the outlook across its fairways and backed by indoor simulators and a busy clubhouse restaurant. Together they give this Central West city on Wiradjuri country both a heritage round and an easygoing social hit.
