Golfing in Mackay Regional Council
Mackay's golf runs along a reef-side stretch of the Queensland coast and leans firmly public, with a centrepiece club, a hilly country 18 and a casual nine. Mackay Golf Club at Beaconsfield, founded in 1925 on land now occupied by the city's airport, is a public 18-hole, par-71 parkland course, well bunkered and easy to walk, with greens that run quick and true. It is a genuine test of skill that still keeps the fun in, backed by a lively social side. Sarina Golf Club, founded in 1934, is a par-67 18-holer and a community hub; its varied, sometimes hilly layout and receptive greens draw travelling golfers as well as locals. Black Springs at Bakers Creek is a public nine-holer, opened in 1999, pitched at social play, with some enjoyable doglegs and a separate pitch-and-putt on site.
