Golfing in Paroo Shire Council

Paroo is golf at its most remote, played across the Mitchell grass plains, mulga lands and opal fields of South West Queensland. Cunnamulla Golf Club, established in the 1950s, lays out its 18-hole course of sand greens and dirt fairways beside the Warrego River, an unpretentious outback round for travellers passing through the state's far south-west. Out on the opal fields, Yowah has its own public 18-hole course with sandy greens and an open-air clubhouse, and it plays tougher than you might expect: visitors talk about punishing rough and demanding fairways, with greens that reward a clever short game. Both are public and both trade on the welcoming spirit of small bush clubs, so come with a sense of adventure and a few spare balls.
