Golfing in City of Port Augusta
At the head of Spencer Gulf, Port Augusta's golf has the Flinders Ranges as its backdrop, and both courses are public. Port Augusta Golf Course, across the water in Port Augusta West, is an unusual 11-hole, par-35 layout and a genuine surprise in such dry country, with watered kikuyu fairways, couch greens and holes lined by gums and pines. Visitors rate its conditioning well above what they expect of an outback course, and the clubhouse welcome is warm. Stirling North Golf Club is a different proposition: an 18-hole, par-68 round on a scraped course with views to the ranges, run with a laid-back, volunteer feel and with mini golf alongside, which makes it a good call for families or anyone after a casual round with a cold drink waiting at the end.
