Golfing in Central Coast Council
On Tasmania's north-west coast between Burnie and Devonport, the golf comes down to two public courses of quite different scale. Ulverstone Golf Club was formed in March 1911 with a five-hole course and is now a par-72 18-holer set in eucalypt forest along the Leven River. It is an inland, tree-lined parkland layout kept in excellent condition, with clean, quick greens and a design that holds up well when the wind blows, and the club makes travelling golfers welcome. Penguin Golf Club is a well-maintained public nine-holer that suits beginners and better players alike. It packs plenty of variety into a small site, most memorably an island hole and a par 3 over a dam, with Mount Montgomery as the backdrop, though first-timers may find the routing takes some working out.
