Golfing in Waratah-Wynyard Council
Golf here splits between the coast at Wynyard and the old mining high country around Waratah, and both courses are public. Seabrook Golf Club at Wynyard has been played since 1923, starting as nine holes on the sand dunes at East Wynyard before more holes were built on the river flats in the 1960s; today it's an unusual 11-hole, par-74 course. That mix of dune and creek-flat ground gives two distinct styles of golf in one round, with a challenging opening stretch, good conditioning and well-regarded coaching for beginners. Up in Waratah, Mountain Vista Golf Club is a volunteer-maintained par-35 parkland nine overlooking the town towards Mt Bischoff. It is tougher than it looks, with tricky greens, old trees and platypus in the dams, plus a sociable twilight nine.
