Golfing in Circular Head Council

Both courses in Tasmania's far north-west are public nine-holers, and each offers a distinct style of golf. Stanley Golf Club, founded in 1909, is a links-style par-66 layout with views of The Nut, coastal grasses lining the fairways and maritime winds that demand you work the ball both ways. It opens with a par 5 flanked by out of bounds along farm pasture, then mixes par 4s and par 3s, each hole with its own name, and its smooth greens are well regarded. The club hosts The Nut Major Open each November. Smithton Golf Course is a par-71 parkland nine in the main town, bordered by the Duck River on its eastern side and a genuine test even for experienced players, with a refurbished clubhouse and bar overlooking several holes.
