Golfing in George Town Council
North of Launceston on the eastern side of the Tamar, George Town's golf is two public courses, both run with plenty of community spirit. Tam O'Shanter Golf & Community Club at Lulworth is a links-style coastal course of nine greens and 18 tees, stretching 5,300 metres with views to match. It is a genuine test that still suits a casual round, kept in good order by staff and volunteers, and its clubhouse dining is a real drawcard. George Town Golf Course is a par-68 nine-holer in town, played off dual tees, with a largely flat layout that is more challenging than it looks and renovated greens kept in excellent shape. The clubhouse opens on Wednesday and Friday afternoons for social nine-hole rounds, an easy way into local golf.
