Golfing in Glenorchy City Council
Set on the Derwent's western shore beneath kunanyi/Mount Wellington, Glenorchy offers a choice of two courses, both run as members' clubs. Claremont Golf Club, formed in 1928, is an 18-hole, par-69 members' course that also welcomes visitors, and the Derwent is in view from almost every hole. It is well laid out and well kept, with a memorable 2nd and a daunting blind tee shot on the 3rd, and the wind can make the round glorious or testing depending on the day. New Town Bay Golf Club at Lutana, previously known as EZ Risdon and Pasminco Hobart, is a private nine-holer about 10 minutes from the city. It is a quirky short course of mostly par 3s and par 4s squeezed into hilly ground, with elevation changes and river views adding interest.
