Golfing in Colac Otway Shire Council
Running from Colac on the banks of Lake Colac south to the Great Ocean Road towns, Colac Otway gives golfers a choice of lake views or sea air, and all three of its courses are public. Colac Golf Club at Elliminyt, founded in 1896, is the standout. In 1928 the club appointed Alex Russell, Alister MacKenzie's partner, to design its 18-hole parkland course, and the clubhouse looks out over the lake; the short par-3 third is a local favourite. Beeac's nine-hole country course is a friendly place to learn, though its notably small grass greens make scoring harder than it looks. Apollo Bay's nine holes on Point Bunbury offer coastal, links-style golf, where elevated tees frame the ocean and the wind can turn a short, walkable round into a real fight.
