Golfing in Hobsons Bay City Council
On Port Phillip's western shore, where coastal wetlands sit alongside industrial complexes about 10 kilometres from the city, Hobsons Bay offers golf in three sizes. Kooringal, 300 metres from Altona Beach, is the full-length option: a private members' club that began as the Williamstown Golf Club in 1946–47 and was extended from nine holes to 18 by Vern Morcom. Tight and tree-lined rather than long, it rewards strategic positioning off the tee. Altona Lakes in Altona North is a public nine-holer opened in 1994, a flat layout with lakes in play, a creek-guarded par 5 and a floodlit range, friendly rather than punishing. Westgate at Spotswood is a public 17-hole, par-61 course, short and lush, ideal for beginners or a quick hit close to the city.
