Golfing in Shire of Collie
Inland in the South West, where state forest and the Collie River shape the country, Collie's golf comes in two sizes, both public. Collie Golf Club is the main event: a par-72 parkland 18 of about 6,000 metres that, by the club's account, visitors have called the best inland course in Western Australia. Generous tree-lined fairways, fast grass greens and right-to-left doglegs set the tone, the river borders the third and eighth, and the pond at the 16th is notorious for swallowing wayward shots, with kangaroos looking on. Eden Park, just outside town, is a relaxed nine-hole par-3 course with a par of 27, suited to beginners, anyone sharpening their short game or a quick hit after work.
