Golfing in City of Nedlands
Both of Nedlands' courses are private members' clubs, set in Perth's leafy inner western suburbs about seven kilometres from the CBD. Cottesloe Golf Club was formed in 1908 as a nine-holer near the sea and moved in 1931 to Swanbourne, where volunteers carved a new 18-hole course from the scrub and sand hills with a horse and plough. Today it carries Graham Marsh's design credit and plays as a links over sweeping, undulating sandy ground, a par 72 of around 6,000 metres with some 80 bunkers that is easy to underestimate and finishes strongly. Nedlands Golf Club, dating from 1932, is a nine-hole, par-41 course in Nedlands itself, tight and tree-lined between the city and the river, with fast, firm greens that reward accuracy.
