About the course
Strategic Clayton-redesigned parkland on the Brisbane River, options at every tee
Royal Queensland Golf Club is a private 18-hole, par-72 parkland course in Murarrie, Queensland, Australia, measuring 6,263 metres and fronting the Brisbane River. Established in 1920, it was originally designed by Carnegie Clark (opened 1921), with Alister MacKenzie contributing design wisdom during his 1926 visit, before a full redesign by Michael Clayton completed in 2007. The layout features 118 mapped bunkers, with bunkers used as centre-line hazards, and notable holes include the strategic par-5 9th, the drivable short par-4 1st and 3rd, and the par-3 4th playing into the prevailing wind to a very long green. Facilities include a driving range, pro shop, restaurant and dining, coaching and parking.
The course is widely regarded as a true strategic test, where wide fairways and a choice of lines from the tee reward thoughtful play over simple straight hitting. Visitors and event-goers consistently praise its immaculate presentation and pristine conditioning, describing a challenging yet enjoyable layout that looks stunning whether played or watched. Having served as a backdrop for major professional tournaments, it carries a reputation as a championship-calibre venue with a polished, big-event atmosphere. Players also single out the welcoming, well-organised service, from the pro shop to course staff, as a standout part of the experience. The overall impression is of a refined parkland course that blends genuine strategic interest with first-class hospitality.
