About the course
Welcoming Ross Watson country parkland near Toowoomba, with a standout new 9th
Clifton Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 70 parkland course at Clifton in Queensland, less than an hour from Toowoomba. Designed by Ross Watson, the layout features Bermuda 328 grass greens in a natural setting. A Ross Watson master plan was carried out in stages: in 2016 the first five holes were reworked with four new greens, and in December 2017 four original greens were modified and a new 9th green built as the club's signature hole. The daily-fee club offers cart hire for visitors and social players.
Clifton enjoys a strong reputation as a friendly country club, with visitors repeatedly singling out the warm welcome from members who happily mingle and share a chat. Players describe a challenging yet fun layout with interesting greens that reward a thoughtful round, set in a peaceful and often uncrowded natural landscape. The course is widely praised for being well cared for, with conditioning that reflects the recent master-plan upgrades. Walkable but with carts on hand when wanted, it's regarded as excellent value and an easygoing place to enjoy or rediscover the game. The overall impression is of a relaxed, sociable Darling Downs club that travelling golfers remember fondly.
