Golfing in Toowoomba Regional Council
High on the Great Dividing Range escarpment, Toowoomba has some of Queensland's oldest golf. Toowoomba Golf Club at Middle Ridge, founded in 1896, is the state's second-oldest club, a well-presented 18-hole parkland about 700 metres above sea level, with a clubhouse deck looking out over the course. City Golf Club in South Toowoomba has been part of the city since 1926 and pairs its golf with a well-regarded dining room. Out on the Darling Downs, Clifton is a Ross Watson design from 1954, a challenging but fun parkland with interesting greens and a peaceful, often uncrowded feel, while Crows Nest (1933) is a lush, tree-lined nine. The rest form a circuit of friendly public country clubs at Oakey, Pittsworth, Millmerran, Goombungee, Cecil Plains and Borneo Barracks, the last laid out on an army base.
