About the course
Tom Doak-designed links along Tasmania's wild north-east coast
Barnbougle Dunes is an 18-hole, par-72 public links course in Bridport, on Tasmania's north-east coast, measuring 6,147 metres with 83 mapped bunkers. Opened in 2004, the original Dunes course was designed by Tom Doak and Mike Clayton, and it sits within a wider resort that also includes the Lost Farm (Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw) and the Bougle Run short course (Bill Coore). The course meanders along dramatic coastline with several short, strategic holes, including the par-four 4th and 12th. Facilities include a driving range, putting green, pro shop, restaurant/dining, coaching, parking, plus cart and club hire.
Widely regarded as one of Australia's finest public courses, Barnbougle Dunes is consistently praised for its spectacular coastal vistas and the authentic links experience of playing through and over the dunes. Reviewers describe it as a genuine bucket-list destination, with many noting that every hole feels like an adventure and that the scenery alone justifies the trip. It carries a reputation as a demanding test, particularly when the wind is up, with players advising that straying off the wide fairways can be unforgiving. The walking-focused layout, hearty clubhouse dining and consistently helpful staff come up again and again as highlights, and on-site accommodation is frequently mentioned as adding to the overall experience. The overall impression is of a memorable, challenging links where natural beauty and strategic golf come together.
