About the course
Picturesque parkland nine in Tasmania's lush Thirlstane countryside
Thirlstane Golf Club is a private nine-hole parkland course located 18km east of Devonport on Squeaking Point Road, in the farming district of Thirlstane on Tasmania's Central North Coast and about 7km from Port Sorell. Designed by Peter Toogood and established in 1980, it offers flat fairways with alternate tee beds on four holes and is surrounded by natural bushland. A 144-metre par-3 features a green set between two lakes. Facilities include a driving range, putting green, restaurant/dining, cart hire and parking.
Despite its compact nine-hole layout, Thirlstane enjoys a reputation that punches above its size, with visitors and locals alike consistently praising the course's condition. Players regularly describe the greens as true and quick and the fairways as lush, with the single bunker noted as deceptively tricky to escape. The signature 6th and the scenic 3rd green draw particular admiration as standout, photo-worthy spots. Much of the warmth in its reputation comes from the welcoming, community-driven atmosphere maintained by volunteers, members and helpful staff. The overall impression is of a well-tended, picturesque country course that comfortably holds its own against larger member tracks.
