Golfing in Latrobe Council

Latrobe's golf is two nine-hole courses near the coast, both dating from 1980, one public and one a members' club. Port Sorell Golf Club at Shearwater is open to the public, with its Kelly Wilson-designed course about 200 metres from Freers Beach and right beside the Shearwater Resort. It suits an unhurried holiday round, with beaches close at hand and the fairways in view from the resort accommodation. Thirlstane Golf Club, a private members' club with a layout by Peter Toogood, sits at Squeaking Point, about 18 kilometres east of Devonport and seven from Port Sorell. It punches above its size: flat, lush fairways framed by bushland, quick greens, a single deceptively tricky bunker and a par 3 to a green set between two lakes.
