About the course
High Country parkland gem where accuracy beats power on tight, tree-lined fairways
Myrtleford Golf Course is a private 18-hole parkland course in Myrtleford, in Victoria's Ovens Valley, playing to a par of 72 over 5,401 metres. Fairways are lined with mature trees, including River Red gums, and the course is known for narrow fairways and small, domed greens; most fairways are flat, with only the 9th and 18th set on a hill. Notable early holes include an elevated tee at the 1st to a raised green guarded by a grass bunker and a Cypress, and tight doglegs at the 2nd, 3rd and 4th demanding accurate positioning. Facilities include a driving range, putting green, pro shop, restaurant/dining, clubhouse, plus cart and club hire.
Set against a backdrop of surrounding hills, Myrtleford enjoys a reputation as something of a hidden gem in the High Country, and players consistently praise just how well maintained it is for a quiet country club. The greens draw particular admiration for being true and blemish-free, and the lush, green fairways earn frequent mention. Many reviewers note the premium placed on accuracy thanks to the narrow corridors and tiny greens, yet beginners often find it welcoming and enjoyable too. Just as commonly singled out is the friendly, hospitable feel of the place, from the volunteer-run club and grounds staff to the bar mid-round. The overall impression is of a peaceful, picturesque round where good positioning is rewarded.
