Golfing in Ballina Shire Council
Ballina Shire's stretch of the Northern Rivers coast gives golfers two public courses with very different personalities. Ballina Golf & Sports Club in East Ballina has the history: it began in June 1908 as a nine-hole course and today plays as an easy-walking, tree-lined par-72 18 beside North Creek, where mature trees supply both shade and trouble and sea breezes shape the scoring. Tees, fairways and greens are kept in fine order, and it suits golfers of every level. Out in the hinterland, Teven Valley is short but far from simple, a walking-only valley course with zoysia from tee to green, firm, fast and undulating greens, and an uphill climb that tests the legs. It is listed among Golf Australia's Top 100 Public Access courses, a rare honour for a layout of its size.
