Golfing in Berrigan Shire Council
The Murray River towns of Berrigan Shire, halfway between Albury and Echuca on the Victorian border, add up to one of the strongest pockets of public country golf in New South Wales. Cobram Barooga Golf Club is the drawcard: first played as a nine-holer at Barooga in April 1928, it now runs to 36 holes among native red gums, and its Old Course, a Vern Morcom design, features in Top 100 lists from Golf Australia and The Golf Course Guide. Tocumwal matches it with 36 holes of its own and is a favourite base for multi-day golf trips, its greenkeeping praised year after year. For something quieter, Finley is a flat, tree-lined par 72 kept lush by volunteers, while Berrigan, founded in 1905, is a par-72 country course at the social heart of its town.
