Golfing in Moira Shire Council
Following the Murray River across northern Victoria, Moira is dairy and horticulture country with one headline course, and all four of its courses are public. Black Bull at Yarrawonga was the last design of five-time Open champion Peter Thomson, with Ross Perrett. It opened in 2015 on reclaimed flood plain beside Lake Mulwala, on land the Bott family farmed for three generations, and has featured in Australian Golf Digest's top 100. Expect wide, open fairways, sparse trees, plenty of water and a links-like feel, plus a strong practice set-up. Nathalia, dating from 1909, is a volunteer-run country course with well-kept greens and narrow, tree-lined fairways that swallow wayward shots. Numurkah pairs its 18 holes with bowls, a bistro and cabins, and St James is a country course near the shire's southern boundary.
