Golfing in City of Coffs Harbour
Coffs Harbour's golf sits between the mountains and the sea, and all four of its courses are public. Bonville is the star: a Ted Stirling design on 250 hectares of undulating, reforested land south of the city, with every hole framed by towering flooded gums and screened from the next, dramatic rises and falls through subtropical forest, and a par-five 4th split by a gorge. It was voted Australia's favourite course in Golf Australia magazine's poll seven years running. Coffs Harbour Golf Club, founded in 1926, is the region's only 27-hole layout and home to the North Coast Open, its wide fairways still demanding accuracy into subtly undulating greens. Sawtell is a friendly 18-hole country course close to the coast, with some elevation and mountain views from its higher holes, and Safety Beach, near Woolgoolga, is a relaxed RSL-linked 18.
