Golfing in Hawkesbury City Council
On Sydney's far north-west fringe, the Hawkesbury's golf is all public, five 18-hole courses with plenty of history and variety between them. Richmond Golf Club is believed to be the oldest golf club in Australia still on its original site, a tight parkland par 72 beneath the Blue Mountains where thick rough punishes loose shots. Windsor, in South Windsor, is a championship course with narrow fairways and small, contoured greens that make approaches demanding. Lynwood at Pitt Town, a Graham Papworth design named after a colonial home built around 1814 on the property, is open and links-like, its couch fairways meandering through natural wetlands over undulating ground. Hawkesbury Waters at Ebenezer is a relaxed bushland course beside the river, and Grose River at Grose Wold, a compact par 66, completes the list, though its current status is unclear.
