In the Upper Hunter, Muswellbrook's two public courses sit in its two main towns and cover country golf's essentials well. Muswellbrook Golf Club, on Bell Street, offers a full 18 holes at par 72, a parkland layout of scenic fairways, strategically placed bunkers and water features that is set up to suit every standard and makes for a relaxed round with friends. Its clubhouse, with dining at Shannon's, gives it a solid community feel. Denman Golf Club, at the Denman Sports Complex, is a nine-hole grass-greens course with separate tees for a second nine, a lovely little layout that still manages to test golfers of all abilities. Its greens are the standout, drawing repeated praise, and those who make the trip tend to leave keen to come back.
