Golfing in Mid-Western Regional Council
Mudgee wine country and the hills around it hold three public courses, each with plenty of country character. Mudgee Golf Club goes back to 1906 and plays a layout redesigned by Arthur East in 1955, a welcoming, well-kept course with kikuyu fairways and fast greens where bump-and-run shots and pitching become an art, and picturesque, testing holes that suit all levels. Henbury at Kandos opened in 1931 and runs an 18-hole, par-70 course with grass greens and tennis courts alongside; a small, volunteer-run club, it backs onto the Capertee Valley and Wollemi National Park, with native animals and birds sharing the parkland. Gulgong Golf Club offers a par-68 country round run with evident care by local volunteers, where the greens stay in good order, frost and drought permitting.
