Golfing in Upper Hunter Shire Council
About 250 kilometres north of Sydney, in horse stud and grazing country, the Upper Hunter's golf is two country nine-holers that both welcome visitors. Scone Golf Club is the newer of the pair: its nine holes were completely revised and reopened in May 2019 at White Park within the town, playing as an 18-hole round from alternate back-nine tees. The design kept the mature gums and added thousands of new trees, and with hill views and plenty of birdlife it makes for a pleasant, easygoing round on a council-maintained course. Merriwa's nine-hole course, part of the Merriwa Sports Club, plays on sand greens and is as much about the clubhouse as the golf, with generous meals and a free camping area nearby that make it a handy stop for travellers.
