Golfing in Northern Beaches Council
From Manly up to Palm Beach, the Northern Beaches pack in 14 courses, and the range runs from genuine seaside golf to bush-framed members' clubs. Long Reef is the headline public round, a links-style course on the Collaroy headland dating from 1921, redesigned by Eric Apperly in 1946 and fully exposed to the sea breezes and ocean views. Manly, founded in 1903, is the oldest of the private clubs, a shortish layout a few blocks from the beach that rewards precision over power. Inland, Graham Marsh's heavily bunkered Terrey Hills and the elevated Monash are sterner tests, while Cromer, Elanora and Bayview complete the members' set. Wakehurst welcomes visitors above Manly Dam, Warringah and tree-lined Mona Vale are the public 18s, and Palm Beach, Balgowlah and Avalon supply nine-holers, with Pittwater Golf Centre for practice.
