Golfing in Ku-ring-gai Council

Sydney's Upper North Shore is members' club country, and Ku-ring-gai holds one of the richest clusters of private golf in the city. Killara, founded at Lindfield in 1899 and the first golf club in Australia to own its own land, is a tree-lined par 71 renovated by Harley Kruse, with immaculate tees and fast, testing greens. Avondale at West Pymble is a 1926 Eric Apperly design, a beautifully kept parkland course with plenty of variety and fair rough. Pymble (1926) is a garden-style parkland under avenues of blue gums, renovated by James Wilcher in 2024, while Roseville (1923) is shorter but sharp, tracing a sandstone escarpment above Garigal National Park with blind shots, doglegs and narrow, well-bunkered fairways. Gordon Golf Club, formed in 1936, is the public option, playing on a council-owned course with notable elevation changes and well-regarded greens.
