Golfing in Port Macquarie-Hastings Council
Three public 18-hole courses give Port Macquarie-Hastings a solid, unfussy golf offering on Birpai country along the Mid North Coast. The one to play first is Port Macquarie Golf Club, where the game was first played in 1906: the region's oldest and most highly regarded course, a coastal parkland by J. Scott with bentgrass greens, plenty of bunkering and a par of 72. Emerald Downs, also in town, is the relaxed counterpoint, a level par-70 layout that makes for easy walking and is open to all comers without membership. Less than 20 kilometres west, Wauchope Country Club is where the locals play, a par-71 course that rolls up and down the surrounding hills and is known for its bent greens, which suit anyone who likes a little terrain with their value.
