Golfing in Kempsey Shire Council
The Macleay Valley's golf runs from the river town of Kempsey out to the coast, and all four of the council's courses are public. Kempsey Golf Club in South Kempsey is the main event: an undulating, tree-lined par 72 set in bushland, wide yet still challenging and enjoyable without being overly long, with well-presented greens and good practice facilities. South West Rocks Country Club offers another full par-72 round near the coast, an interesting 18 whose greens putt well but can run firm and fast. Frederickton is a fun par-33 nine-holer where kangaroos share the fairways, popular with beginners and casual golfers. And Crescent Head Country Club, dating from 1956, has a six-hole layout billed as Australia's only accredited one, a relaxed hit with family or friends and ocean views reckoned among the best on any course.
