Golfing in Shellharbour City Council
Shellharbour's golf is a public double on the Illawarra coast, one round near the water and one tucked under the escarpment. The Links Shell Cove is the council's own community course: opened in 2004 as Shellharbour Links and renamed four years later, it is a Scott Murray design with links-style character, and its bunkers have since been renovated by Richard Chamberlain. Multiple tee sets let it play to a range of handicaps, and the conditioning of its greens is a regular talking point. Inland, Calderwood Valley is an 18-hole, par-70 course designed by McKay and Sons, shorter and more countrified, with clear creeks crossing the layout and the rugged escarpment forming a backdrop to nearly every hole. Between them they suit social hitters and competition players alike.
