Golfing in Kiama Municipal Council
Kiama's slice of the Illawarra coast has two public courses, both shaped by the sea. Kiama Golf Club has been the home of golf in the town since 1905 and has played on its current site at Kiama Downs, beside the Minnamurra River, since 1930. It is a reliable all-weather course: on the shorter side, but with big par 5s on both nines, carries over water and a premium on accuracy from the tee. Gerringong Golf Club at Gerroa is much younger, born of a public meeting the council called in 1981 and opened the following year to an Al Howard design. Its par-68 layout rolls across farmland hills overlooking Walkers Beach, between Gerringong and Gerroa, with lakes and ponds in play and coastal and rural views from almost every tee and green.
