Golfing in Tablelands Regional Council
Inland from Cairns, among World Heritage rainforest, crater lakes and tropical dairy country, the Tablelands has four public courses, all relaxed country golf. Atherton Golf Club bills itself as the home of golf on the Tablelands: an 18-hole mix of par threes, fours and fives with lakes and bunkers in play, beautifully mown fairways and fast, true greens with big, testing breaks. Millaa Millaa, about 870 metres above sea level, is a charming, largely unmanned course on rolling fairways framed by lush forest, run on an honour system. Mount Garnet is another 18-hole course, loved for its friendly welcome and Friday-night barbecue. The Ravenshoe Millstream Country Club, dating from 1922, is a community-run nine-holer where plenty of visitors pair a round with an overnight stay nearby.
