Golfing in City of Onkaparinga
On Adelaide's southern fringe, Onkaparinga offers five 18-hole courses, all of them public and most of them shorter, tree-lined parkland rounds that reward accuracy over power. Thaxted Park at Woodcroft, dating from 1964, is the most complete test, a par-70 layout over rolling hills with sea views, fast greens, big trees and creeks and dams in play. The Vines Golf Club of Reynella at Happy Valley plays to par 71 on generous fairways framed by native bush, a friendly choice for beginners and regulars alike. Flagstaff Hill (par 61) threads through mature gums and creeks and is remembered for its 7th, a carry over the water of Loch Hillan. Blackwood at Cherry Gardens (par 66) mixes trees and water, and Willunga's par-59 course, going since 1973, is a tricky, tree-lined round with large greens.
