Golfing in Adelaide Hills Council
Golf in the Adelaide Hills is played among the orchards, vineyards and small towns of the Mount Lofty Ranges, and all three courses are open to the public. The oldest is Oakbank, founded in 1892, a links-style nine-holer in the Onkaparinga Valley that plays relatively flat for the Hills, with couch fairways, very few bunkers and well-kept greens maintained by volunteers. Mount Lofty Golf Course at Stirling, open since 1925 and now trading as The Stirling Golf Club, is a genuinely hilly 18 on Golflinks Road where sloping fairways can carry a good drive away, set in tranquil surrounds with big views. Highercombe Golf & Country Club at Paracombe, dating from 1967, is a challenging, undulating parkland lined with poplars, pines and eucalypts, with dams on the property and a relaxed, play-at-your-own-pace feel.
