Golfing in Maroondah City Council
Maroondah's golf is municipal golf done well, in Melbourne's outer east where the suburbs give way to semi-rural land. Two of its three courses are council-run public 18-holers. Ringwood Golf, about 30 minutes from the CBD and open 364 days a year, is an interesting par-70 with quick greens and the Dandenong Ranges as a backdrop, regarded by locals as one of the better public options in the region. Dorset Golf in Croydon is shorter and friendlier, mixing wide, forgiving holes with a few tougher ones, so it suits beginners and regulars alike, though it fills up. For a sterner test, Eastwood Golf Club in Kilsyth South, which grew from the vision of a Ringwood orchardist in the early 1950s, also takes public bookings: tight, tree-lined and hilly, with fast, well-protected greens and its own lawn bowls greens.
