Golfing in City of Melville
Perth's southern suburbs east of Fremantle give Melville three public courses with quite different jobs. Melville Glades in Leeming is the full test, the only Western Australian course by the noted architect Al Howard, later reworked by Graham Marsh and Ross Watson; its first hole, Howards Way, honours him. At par 70 and just over 6,100 metres it is flat and walkable, with true-rolling greens, plenty of bunkers and kangaroos lazing along the fairways. Point Walter in Bicton, known for the quality of its fairways and greens, sits above the Swan River with wide fairways for beginners and fast, contoured greens for everyone else, plus mini golf alongside. Melville Golf Centre is a nine-hole par-3 facility with a floodlit range, built for beginners and families.
