Golfing in Cumberland City Council
Cumberland's western-suburbs golf is all public, four 18-hole courses that give Sydney's west plenty of affordable choice. Carnarvon, an Arthur East design at Lidcombe, grew out of informal games in 1927: it is a gently undulating, easy-walking parkland round on kikuyu fairways and poa greens, with a smart modern clubhouse looking over the course, and the council has campaigned to save it from a state government proposal to turn it into a cemetery. Cumberland Country Golf Club at Greystanes, dating from 1937, is set among native bushland, with lush fairways and two double dog-leg par fives that reward local knowledge. Woodville at Guildford is a tree-lined green pocket among suburban streets where accuracy matters, and Auburn is a flat, walkable, good-value par 69 with plenty of par 3s and greens that roll pure.
